An old Pigalle name, brought back

The Mikado is not a new idea. When it reopened in 2022, Bonjour Paris looked back at its earlier lives: cabaret shows and dancing in the early days, Johnny Hallyday holding court in the 1960s, pop stars passing through in the 1980s. Today it belongs to the Hôtel Rochechouart, part of the Orso Hotels group, and the bar sits on the lower level, beneath the hotel's dining room. The name comes from the decor: mikado means Japanese emperor, and Time Out describes a 1920s Japanese-inspired room refreshed by the design studio Festen. Bonjour Paris adds lanterns, retro carpet, plush furniture, Art Deco touches and a disco ball, all reached through the hotel's red door.

What kind of night it is

Time Out sums up the music as upbeat, crowd-pleasing house from guest DJs, and that sets the tone: you come to dance to songs you half know, not to discover an obscure label. The room is small and intimate, which changes the dynamic. You won't lose your friends here, the DJ is a few metres away, and the evening feels more like a private party in a hotel than a club night. Closing at 4am also makes it an earlier night than the techno clubs, a good match if you want to dance without wrecking the next day.

One thing to know: guides disagree on the hours. Older ones gave Thursday to Saturday and earlier closing times; Time Out's September 2025 piece says Friday and Saturday until 4am. Check the night before you plan around it.

Who it suits and what to wear

The Mikado is a good choice for a birthday, a couple's night out or a small group that wants its own corner, and less so for a big crowd of friends arriving together. No dress code is published, but the setting asks for a bit of effort: a 1920s room behind a red door looks better with something smart and playful than with sportswear. For a table or the guest list, it varies from night to night: tell us on WhatsApp when you're coming and how many of you there are.

Dinner upstairs, Pigalle outside

The hotel is a short walk from both Pigalle and Anvers metro stations, at the foot of Montmartre. Back in 2022, Bonjour Paris reported that the kitchen upstairs served until midnight, which makes dinner and dancing under one roof an easy plan. For a second stop you're spoilt for choice within a few minutes' walk: the drag cabaret and club Madame Arthur up rue des Martyrs, promoter nights at Folies Pigalle on the square, the reborn Bus Palladium or the three floors of La Machine by the Moulin Rouge. The last metro reaches the end of the line around 1:15am on weeknights and 2:15am on Fridays and Saturdays; after that, the Noctilien night buses run until the morning.
