Le Chinois is a bar, gig venue and club set in a former Chinese restaurant at 6 place du Marché in Montreuil, near Croix de Chavaux station on metro line 9, just east of Paris. It opens year-round from Thursday to Saturday, with rock-leaning gigs in the evening and, on club nights, DJs and local electronic collectives until as late as 5am.

From Oberkampf to Montreuil

If you used to go to L'International, the rock bar and gig venue on Oberkampf, you already know the people behind Le Chinois. L'International closed in spring 2025, and on 4 September 2025 three of its former members relaunched Le Chinois in Montreuil, taking charge of programming, production and communication, according to Time Out Paris. That history explains the feel of the place. It's a venue built by people who come from the Paris gig circuit, so guitar bands are at home here, and the club nights lean on local crews rather than on big touring names. If you miss L'International, this is where its team went, one line 9 ride from Oberkampf.

Gigs early, DJs late

A night at Le Chinois usually starts with a band. The autumn of 2026 had Actors on 23 September and Superfan on 2 November, and on Thursday 5 November Babe Haven play there on their first visit to Paris. On club nights the room changes after the gig. Time Out Paris summed up the plan when the venue relaunched: club nights that keep drawing on music from around the world and give room to Montreuil's own electronic artists and collectives. On 18 April 2026, for example, Quelf invited Clumsy B and Adrixxx for a night of afro-electronic sounds from midnight to 5am, and in May the electronic band Public Circuit headlined. Club nights come by event rather than every week, so ask us on WhatsApp what's on before you plan your trip.

Kitsch decor and a bunker smoking room

The name comes from the building, and the new team kept the spirit. Visit Paris Region describes a relaxed place with a kitsch, raw decor, a colourful bar, an open-stage night and a smoking room styled like a Berlin bunker. There's no published dress code, and the setting tells you everything: come as you are. It works well as part of a Montreuil night out, too. Bal Chavaux, the concert and party hall in the former Méliès cinema, is a short walk away at Croix de Chavaux, and La Marbrerie is one metro stop further at Mairie de Montreuil. Le Chinois and Bal Chavaux arrived in the same autumn: Time Out Paris's September 2025 round-up of new places in Montreuil covered the relaunch of one and the coming opening of the other side by side. Together with La Marbrerie, they give the area around line 9 enough going on for a whole night out without crossing back into Paris.

Getting there from Paris and back

Take metro line 9 to Croix de Chavaux, the stop before the end of the line at Mairie de Montreuil. Line 9 runs through Trocadéro, Franklin D. Roosevelt, République, Oberkampf and Nation, so from much of Paris it's one train. Gig nights usually let you take the metro home, which the RATP says runs until about 1:15am from Sunday to Thursday and about 2:15am on Fridays, Saturdays and nights before public holidays, measured at the end of the line; check the last train from Croix de Chavaux in the RATP app. On a club night until 5am, plan on a Noctilien night bus (roughly 12:30am to 5:30am, Navigo valid), a taxi, or the first metro.
