Paris Nightclub Dress Code: What to Wear, Club by Club
· Updated:
The dress code in Paris nightclubs depends on the area: in the Champs-Élysées and Étoile clubs, dress smart, with no trainers, no sportswear and, at L'Arc, no jeans; in the techno clubs of the east, such as Rex Club, Essaim or La Java, there's no dress code and comfortable clothes are fine. Themed nights set their own rules, and everywhere the door has the last word.
Few Paris clubs write their dress code down, and those that do keep it short. So this guide sticks to what each club, its listings or the press actually say, and adds what that means in practice. The person who decides is the physio, short for physionomiste: the door selector who looks at your outfit, your attitude and your group in a few seconds.

Champs-Élysées and Étoile: dress smart
The west of Paris is where dress codes are real. The Paris Region tourist board is explicit about L'Arc, facing the Arc de Triomphe: no jeans and no trainers, and it suggests a fitted shirt or a bustier dress. Listings for Cova and Mirage, side by side on rue Pierre Charron, ask for a smart and elegant outfit, and those for Bridge ask for smart clothes on weekend nights. Raspoutine doesn't publish a written rule, but its website talks about a stylish crowd and its door has a reputation for being picky.

In practice, for men: a shirt or a jacket, dark trousers or smart dark jeans where jeans aren't refused, and leather shoes or very clean minimal sneakers only where the club is relaxed about it. For women: a dress, a sharp top, heels or smart flats. Avoid sportswear, caps, shorts and flip-flops. And arrive in time: Sortir à Paris advises getting to L'Arc before midnight on big nights.
The Champs-Élysées clubs, one by one →Selective doors: Silencio, Pamela, L'Aventure, Pachamama
Some clubs are less about a dress code than about a door. Time Out warns that at Silencio, David Lynch's club on rue Montmartre, you need to look right to get in after midnight. Pamela, in Saint-Germain, is a small vaulted cellar with a selective door. At L'Aventure, near the Étoile, Thierry Costes has said the club turns many people away every night. Pachamama, near Bastille, asks for smart dress, reserves the right of admission even with a booking and asks for a balanced mix of men and women at the door. Small groups, a calm attitude and a booking help everywhere.
Techno clubs: no dress code, but rules
In the techno and house clubs, nobody checks your shoes. Rex Club's FAQ describes a mixed crowd and no VIP section, so dress to dance, not to be seen. Essaim publishes no dress code but says entry is at the door team's discretion, even with a presale ticket. What these clubs do publish are behaviour rules: La Java, Badaboum and La Station say their nights are inclusive and that anyone who doesn't respect that is refused or asked to leave. Mia Mao bans photos, videos and suitcases inside, and Glazart refuses large bags and suitcases.
Practical clothes win here: shoes you can stand in for six hours, light layers because the rooms get hot, and a small bag. On the boats and at T7's terrace, bring something for outside; at the summer open-airs, shoes you can dance in on grass or concrete.

Themed nights and costumes
Themed nights override everything. For its Halloween ball on 31 October 2026, Les Bains made the costume part of the party, Sortir à Paris said. La Nuit runs a Diamond White Party with its own colour code, Wanderlust held an all-white party in August 2026, and Madame Arthur's December masked ball is an open invitation to dress up. La Machine du Moulin Rouge has no dress code unless a party sets one on its ticket page. Always read the event page before you go, or ask us.
What to bring to the door
Bring a physical ID: Le Duplex asks for one at the door, Rex Club accepts an original passport, national ID card or driving licence, and Glazart's security may check everyone's. Keep your ticket ready on your phone, travel light, and know the name on the booking if you're on a table. If the door says no, don't argue: it rarely changes its mind, and another club is never far.
In winter, think about your coat before you leave. Cabaret Sauvage and Mia Mao both have a cloakroom, but the queue for it at closing time can be long, and on the boats and terraces you'll want a layer anyway. A light jacket you can carry beats a heavy coat, and a small bag gets through the door faster than a big one, especially at Glazart, where large bags are refused.

Can you wear trainers to a Paris nightclub?
In the techno clubs of the east, yes: Rex Club, Essaim, La Java and Mia Mao publish no dress code. In the clubs around the Champs-Élysées and the Étoile, avoid them: the Paris Region tourist board says L'Arc refuses jeans and trainers, and other clubs there ask for a smart and elegant outfit.
What should I wear to a club on the Champs-Élysées?
A smart, put-together outfit: a fitted shirt or a jacket, a dress or a sharp top, good shoes and nothing sporty. Listings for Cova and Mirage ask for smart and elegant, and Bridge for smart clothes on weekend nights.
Is there a dress code in Paris techno clubs?
Usually not. Rex Club, Essaim, La Java, Mia Mao and La Machine don't publish one, unless a particular party sets a theme. What they ask for is respect: several publish inclusive house rules and refuse anyone who doesn't follow them.
Why do people get turned away at the door in Paris?
The door decides. Clubs like Raspoutine, L'Aventure, Silencio and Pamela are known for a selective door, Essaim says entry is at its door team's discretion even with a ticket, and Pachamama reserves the right of admission even with a booking. Outfit, attitude and the size of your group all count.
Do I need ID to get into a Paris club?
Bring it. Le Duplex asks for a physical ID at the door, Rex Club accepts an original passport, national ID card or driving licence, and Glazart's security may check everyone's ID. A photo on your phone is not enough.
